GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

The Atlas of Equipped Production Areas of the Emilia Romagna Region is an advanced Web GIS application based on the latest Web 2.0 opesource development techniques.

It has 'been developed on behalf of ERVET Spa - Emilia Romagna Development Agency Spa and the Service for economic development policies of the Emilia Romagna region (Italy), as an information tool for regional marketing. It 'part of the site www.investinemiliaromagna.it.

The Emilia-Romagna has identified the requirements for the environmentally equipped areas (APEA), mainly on energy supply, sewage system, disposal and recycling of waste, the infrastructural facilities in terms of ICT networks and access roads to the area, harmonizing with the environmental context, the presence of green spaces and services for workers. Another characteristic element is the presence of a single subject area manager, something that will allow businesses to obtain localized faster permits and authorizations.

The Atlas identifies the territory of Emilia-Romagna production areas that respond to different location requirements of the investor in terms of positioning with respect to infrastructure and productive regional specializations. The present areas in the Atlas do not represent all of the offer of settlement in the region, but refer to the production areas candidates to become productive areas Ecologically Equipped (APEA), following voluntary agreements between regions, provinces and municipalities.

GENERAL FUNCTIONALITIES

The Atlas provides an interactive geo-referenced representation of production areas, with Web-GIS system.

The application is based and makes available all the features of display and navigation (zoom, pan, search place names, etc..) of Google Maps.

They are integrated into the specific functions related to research and consultation of production areas and facilities.

The legend allows to interpret the data associated (total area, area expansion, etc..) and activate further specific functionalities for the consultation of additional data (administrative boundaries, infrastructure, logistics, manufacturing and regional economic characteristics, etc.).

For each detail page is dynamically produced a report on local economic environment. The report consists of a pie chart and a tabular form that shows the local units and employees in the current view, as well as their distribution and percentage ordered in different main activity sectors. The report data is updated in real time when the current view, allowing a dynamic analysis of local context, both at a wider or more detailed zoom.

Google Maps Street View is available for the productive areas covered by the service: it is possible to activate it by default clicking on the marker representative of the area, or by clicking anywhere on the map, on the roads covered by the service.

Technical specifications

For a fast & fluid application usage on the web, it is sufficient any operating system (Win, Mac, Linux), an (at least) Adsl internet connection and any web browser in recent versions, with javascript enabled (necessary condition). For a better and smoother experience we strongly recommend browsers such as Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera, & Google Chrome.

EMPLOYEES BY SECTOR MODULE

This module allows searching and viewing aggregated data on employees’ clusters in the territory by different economic and productive sectors (ISTAT 2002). Every marker symbolizes the overall sum of the employees belonging to the all local units (firms) located in the specific area.

To start the search it is necessary to set the overall parameters of the query (described below) and press the "Update Map".

Clusters are dinamically thematized depending on map zoom level: higher the zoom level, more detailed clusters are represented on the map.

A specific legend is generated for each search outcome: its intervals of values are calibrated for each economic sector, and change when the map zoom changes. This optimize the clustering representation at high zoom levels.

Every new search delete the previous one results. Through the button "Clear Map", it is possible to run the same task.

Search Parameters

  1. Kind of activity: you can choose the ISTAT subsection activity code of local units to be searched.

  2. Number of employees in local units: you can set the number of employees in the local units to search for.

  3. Max results for each query: the max number of local units to be returned for each query.

  4. Search for Istat Ateco 2002 activity code: you can browse the local units associated with specific codes Ateco 2002, up to 5 digits.

  5. Search location and boundaries: you can run the query on the entire territory of Emilia Romagna region or on the extents of the displayed map bounds. This second option allows a very detailed analysis of local distribution of local units, allowing you to just focus here all the search results.
